About

A publication, not a pitch.

Walk Forward is a weekly publication from the team at Ferrante Capital. We build and test trading systems, trade them with our own capital, and write about the process.

We publish quantitative trading research — the backtests, the assumptions, the failures, and the results — for a general audience, every week. Every subscriber gets the same issue on the same day. That's not a limitation; it's the product.

We're not here to tell you what to trade. We're here to show you, honestly, what building and testing trading systems actually looks like.

Why "backtest honesty"

Most trading-strategy marketing shows you an equity curve that goes up and to the right, and hopes you don't ask how it was made. We started Walk Forward because we think the interesting part is exactly the part that gets hidden.

So here's the deal:

  • Every backtest we publish comes with its assumptions attached — costs, slippage, data, the works — and with the required hypothetical-performance disclaimer at full size, every time. Simulated results are simulated. We will never dress one up as a track record.
  • We show the failures. Most strategies we test die in testing. You'll see the kill log, not just the survivors — because survivorship bias is the industry's favorite magic trick and we're not doing magic.
  • We trade our own capital using the same strategies we discuss. When we run live accounts alongside published research, we'll publish the live-vs-backtest reconciliation, drawdowns included.
  • We publish on a schedule, to everyone at once. No tiers of early access, no personal picks, no "DM us for the real stuff." There is no real stuff behind the curtain. The newsletter is the product.

What we are not: we're not managing your money, and nothing we publish is a recommendation aimed at you. We're a publication. If that sounds like less than the industry usually promises — that's the point. It's also more than the industry usually delivers.

How we work

The testing pipeline — where ideas come from, how they're validated, and how they die — has its own page: Methodology. The short version: every idea enters the same gauntlet, none get a pass, and the ones that fail get written up with the same care as the ones that survive.

We trade our own capital using the same strategies we discuss.

Walk Forward is an educational publication of general and regular circulation. Nothing here is individualized investment or trading advice. Read the full disclosures.
